IELTS Band Score and Marking Criteria

Calculation of IELTS Band Score

Range of band score lies between 0 and 9. IELTS marking scheme tallies all four fields of listening, reading, writing and speaking to compute results. This result can be in figures of fraction. While calculating:

  • If overall score is an average of 0.25, score will be increased to o.5.
  • If overall score is an average of 0.75, it will be rounded off to a whole number.
  • If overall score is 0.1, it will go down to closest whole number.
  • Score is rounded up or down to nearest 0.5.

IELTS Listening Score

Total number of questions are 40. Each question carries one mark. There is no negative marking in IELTS exam.

Writing scores are awarded on the basis of four dimensions. These are:

  • Task Achievement (for Task 1) and Task Response (for Task 2):
