The IELTS Writing Test is conducted to analyze your skills and ability to write correctly. Also, the test determines how well you can pen down your opinions and ideas in the exact ways keeping grammar and vocabulary in mind.
IELTS Writing Time Duration
The IELTS written test lasts for one hour. So, before you begin with your written test, make sure you don’t spend more than 20 minutes on Task 1 and 40 minutes on Task 2, as no extra time will be allotted. Also, for the Task1, you need to write at least 150 words and for Task2 minimum 250 words, so be particular about your word limit.
Note: The above mentioned word limit is minimum. So, you can write beyond the above mentioned limit.
IELTS Academic Writing Test
In IELTS Academic Writing Test, your answers should be in a very formal way for all the given two tasks.
Task 1: Here, you will be either given any of the three: a Graph, Diagram, or a Chart. You are supposed to study and analyze the given figure carefully and explain clearly what you understood. You might need to explain the Graph, its data and other related things that are included. You need to spend at least 20 min for this task.
Task 2: Here, you need to describe your personal opinion and/or argument about a topic in an organized way. This would reflect your skills of vocabulary and show how well you can express your viewpoints accurately.
IELTS General Training Writing test
In the General Training (GT module) Writing Test of IELTS, you are expected to complete both these task in a non- formal way.
Task 1: You will be asked to write a letter on the basis of any of the given situation. The type of a letter you write can be either of the 3: formal, semi-formal or personal.
Task 2: You will be asked to pen down a write-up that should be expressed in your own thoughts and opinion on the assigned topic. You are free to write in your own words.
The aspects that affect the Writing Test Score of IELTS
In terms of scores, the second task carries more importance as compared to the first Task of the Writing Test.
